Julie Hay's Ideas Blogs & Associated Articles

Picture
A compilation of blogs charting Julie Hay's Transactional Analysis ideas and publications from 1986 to present day (2020).

From October 2017 until May 2019, Julie Hay published a series of 77 blogs that tracked how she had been developing her TA ideas - including several that have now become well known: the competence curve, steps to success, windows on the world, internal and behavioural ego states, working styles, sailship success, the assessing cube (AP3) and leadership styles.

The blogs also incorporate material about contracting, supervision, group processes, and how to distinguish between the different ways in which TA is applied professionally. Julie Hay is qualified to the Teaching & Supervising Transactional Analyst level in all four of the recognised fields of application – Counselling, Organisational, Psychotherapy and Educational. She is the originator of the Developmental TA approach, which takes a positive psychology approach and emphasises the similarities of the non-psychotherapy applications. At the same time, many of the ways in which Julie simplifies complex TA concepts are invaluable to psychotherapists who want to operate in the way that Eric Berne suggested – teach the theories to the clients and then help them apply those models to themselves. Julie’s models have been tried and tested during her experience within organisations as trainer, coach, consultant, manager; as an organisational consultant working on change management, team working, assessment/development centres and coach/mentoring schemes; in private practice as a coach, counsellor, therapist; as a psychotherapist within high security prisons; as a professional supervisor of other coaches, counsellors, psychotherapists, educators and other practitioners; whilst offering advanced TA training and supervision in over 40 countries; and within a number of different voluntary roles within professional associations.

This book is issued at cost – you pay only for printing and postage costs.  This is the large version.

There is also a small version (see Julie Hay's Ideas Blogs version - pictured to the right) containing only the blogs, which is also issued at cost .

Julie has also made both books available on her website for free as downloadable PDF's.

Both books are also available worldwide at Amazon in Paperback (the small version is also available as a Kindle eBook), you may wish to check there before purchasing here, as Amazon can provide much more competitive postage prices - often free! .

donkey bridges for developmental ta
Making transactional analysis accessible and memorable

By Julie Hay 2012
Picture
Written for people with some knowledge of TA, this book contains a myriad of ideas for teaching TA to others in ways that make it memorable and accessible. Julie Hay sets out the key principles of developmental TA. At the same time she illustrates how to explain these concepts in a style that captures the fun and simplicity of early TA writings.

If you are already familiar with transactional analysis concepts, teach or explain them to other people, and are looking for simple frameworks to pass on to others – this book is what you need. It converts the original therapeutic focus of TA into an emphasis on healthy development, contains easy to understand versions of a range of TA concepts, and uses various memory aids to help you and clients recall the ideas when you need to use them.

This book has been written specifically for those in the business of helping other people to develop themselves. This includes coaches, teachers and trainers, human resource professionals, social workers, consultants, mediators, facilitators – and not forgetting counsellors and therapists who want to explain some of the theory to their clients but feel the need for a different approach to that used to learn TA themselves during their own professional training.

Julie Hay has taken models used by psychotherapists and converted them into frameworks that focus on positive psychology and the healthy development of individuals, teams and organisations. These are just as relevant for individuals and their families, teachers and students – anyone in any set of circumstances will find something of value within developmental transactional analysis.

Please note that the book assumes reasonable familiarity with TA concepts. This is not the book for beginners! Julie gives full details of where concepts originated, as well as where some of the 'donkey bridge' variations have first appeared. However, she does not give detailed explanations of descriptions as this information is readily available from other sources – including some of Julie's other books.

Called TA101 because this course is provided by an internationally-accredited TA trainer (Julie Hay), to a syllabus approved by the international TA associations.

This individual learning digital download edition of TA101 is available as 3 elements (*each element can be purchased separately or part of a bundle, depending on your requirements):

TA101 MP3 Digital Audio Recordings (1) *

It includes an introduction to the whole range of TA concepts, such as Parent, Adult, Child ego states, I'm OK, You're OK, strokes and warm fuzzies, games people play, life script, and many others that together provide a great psychological approach to understanding what makes people tick.
Find out how childhood interacts with genes to form personalities, learn how to analyse the dynamics within families, classrooms, teams and organisations, and how to apply these ideas to communication and interpersonal skills, parenting, leadership, persuasion and influencing, problem solving, time management, self development, teamwork and organisational change.
