A man once saw a butterfly working its way out of its cocoon, in order to re-enter the world as a beautiful new being. Full of pity, he took out his pocket knife and carefully cut through the tissue.  He then took the animal in his hands and threw it high up in the air.  To his complete amazement, the helpless creature fluttered back down to the ground, not able to fly.  He had robbed this animal of the essential exercises needed to make it fly, albeit completely unintentionally.

Discover for yourself what leadership could mean to you

Einstein and the art of sailing will take you on an exciting search for the manager’s role.  Inquisitive, investigative and challenging questions will lead you on the trail of modern leadership.  Various different thought trails will help you to discover what leadership could mean to you.  This has turned Einstein and the art of sailing into a unique reading and work book.

 Einstein …

You will be accompanied by the big thinker Einstein along your journey, the personification of the persistent investigator and a brilliant interrogator.  Together with him you will be laying down the central questions surrounding modern leadership.  You will pause for moments of reflection: which personal characteristics will make me a good manager?  You will discover several different perspectives where the leadership phenomenon is concerned: what is of importance to a manager to really take note of?

… and the art of sailing

The question isn’t how you could generally be an excellent manager, the question is why you specifically could be an excellent manager.  Your personal strengths and the field of force within your organisation will determine the opportunities open to you.  You appear to be a sailor who uses their own knowledge, expertise, skills and experience, but also manages to make use of elements like weather and wind, low and high tide.

This book offers a number of theoretical frameworks from Transactional Analysis, Group Relations Theory and System and Communication Theory.  However, its main purpose is to provide assistance during the search for and the struggle with the role of the manager in a fast changing environment.  There is also an interactive website to complement this book:  www.alberteinstein.nl.
